TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Schooling Commissioner Richard Corcoran, who sparred with school boards and the federal governing administration in excess of mask mandates in the course of the coronavirus pandemic, declared Thursday he is resigning at the conclusion of April.

In a statement, Corcoran, a former Florida Home speaker, said he is stepping down to commit much more time with his family members and made available major praise for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who appointed him in 2018.

DeSantis tapped Corcoran as instruction commissioner after Corcoran had backed his opponent in the state’s 2018 Republican principal. Corcoran had deemed his have operate for governor at the time but instead backed DeSantis’ challenger, Adam Putnam, who was considered a shoo-in for the nomination right until former President Donald Trump backed DeSantis in advance of the key.
